Housing market could be back in business soon, as surveyors signal that property valuations could restart in weeks

The housing market could be back up and running in just a few weeks after the industry body for surveyors confirmed it will unveil 'practical guidance' to enable home valuations to restart safely.

A spokeswoman for the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors told This is Money that it is readying a new set of guidelines for valuers across the UK and hopes to release them imminently.

The effective suspension of valuations in March slammed the brakes on mortgage offers and the property market, with surveyors unable to access homes due to lockdown and social distancing.

The property industry sees restarting valuations as the key to unlocking the housing market, although government advice not to move home remains in place.

Combined with uncertainty about the effect of the coronavirus lockdown on house prices - and the need to cope with a wave of borrowers asking for mortgage holidays - the suspension of valuations triggered banks and building societies to pull hundreds of mortgage deals overnight.

The RICS spokeswoman said: 'The built environment, whether that is residential, commercial or construction, will play a significant role in rebooting the UK economy. But the health and safety of all who interact with it is RICS’ top priority.

'Since lockdown began we have pushed Government for clear and transparent guidance to keep key sectors working.

'In the coming weeks, RICS will issue practical guidance to help professionals to re-open buildings and ensure safe home moving.'

Many banks and building societies suspended new mortgage lending on both residential and buy-to-let property above 60 per cent loan-to-value as Britain went into lockdown.

While the situation has now eased, with most lenders now offering mortgages to those with at least a 25 per cent deposit or equity, things remain tight for those with small deposits.

Banks and building societies are often happy to carry out some desktop valuations, which draw on local property market data and previous sales to check if they are willing to lend, but many properties and borrowers do not fit the bill for these.

The inability of valuers to carry out physical property inspections has also barred lenders that do not use automated valuation models from offering loans.

Andrew Montlake, of mortgage broker Coreco, said that the key to getting the property market moving, was 'first of all getting valuers back to deal with the backlog of applications'.

He said: 'There doesn’t seem to be much reason why this can’t be done simply and safely by making sure, for example, the valuer is the only person in the house when they come round or utilising technology, or even enabling the borrower to do a video inspection of the inside whilst the valuer looks outside.'

If you have or are considering booking us for May onwards, then we are sure you will understand that removals will have changed significantly since the #Covid19 outbreak and our procedures to meet government guidelines will be very stringent for the protection of our teams and you alike.

We are living in unprecedented times and are trying to plan our strategy for operating after the government lockdown ends. It is our intention to commence operations again no later than the 10th May 2020, but we anticipate no earlier than the 7th May 2020, subject to our crew’s agreeing, the government advice.

As you are aware, the Government are continually reviewing their stance on the situation surrounding Coronavirus in order to manage and control the spread of the virus. Instructions from them may restrict our ability to deliver a service to you. Should such measures be implemented, this will restrict our ability to meet our quotation and or supply services as originally detailed. We may legally, be obliged to delay, suspend, or indeed cancel our services. In such situation, we and our insurers will not be able to accept any liability for loses that may arise as a result. We therefore limit our liability accordingly.

12 Ideas for keeping kids busy during lockdown.

12 Things for children to do during lock down.

School’s out for, well we don’t know how long?

The covid-19 pandemic has moved the classroom and the office online for the foreseeable future, meaning that there are a lot more hours in the day to fill when it comes to entertaining your kids. Keeping kids entertained during lock down is a tough order, but unlimited screen time is no way to spend this time at home (though if your kids are getting more screen time than normal they’re going to be just fine, so long as you strike a healthy balance).

With many park’s, shops, and community groups closed across the country, plus a hiatus on playdates, it’s definitely a tough time to be a parent. Fortunately, there are lots of creative things you can do when it comes to keeping kids busy during lock down that don’t require leaving your home. Check out 12 of my favourites and think outside of the box when it comes to keeping your little ones (and yourself) occupied until social distancing requirements are lifted.

1. DIY Board Games

Give your kids a poster board, some markers, and some construction paper, and ask them to design their own board game that you can play as a family later in the day. If they need some inspiration, assign a theme—such as outer space or their own take on Candy Land. This fun activity does double duty as a learning experience, since it requires the use of critical thinking to create a cohesive game with a beginning and an end. Once it’s done, make it the star of a family game night and test your skills to see who comes out on top.

2. Family Book Club

Have each of your kids pick out a book and come up with five discussion questions about it. Then have everyone read it and come together for a kid-led book club. If your child is too young to read on their own, read a book out loud to them and then work together on coming up with a few questions. This is a good opportunity to encourage more reading during lock down, and gives kids a chance to play teacher with you as the student.

3. Plant a Garden

Planting a garden is one of those things that it can be difficult to find the time for in everyday life. But with the coronavirus putting a halt to busy schedules, there’s no better time to finally tackle your gardening project. Choose whether you’re going to plant vegetables, herbs, or flowers (or all three!) and let your kids pick out the specific plants you’re going to put in. Order your seeds and supplies online and then spend a sunny day getting your garden all set up. Your kids will enjoy digging around in the mud, and you’ll all get a ton of enjoyment out of tending to your garden and seeing it come to life.

4. Mystery Film Nights

Put the mystery in film night by having everyone in your household pick out three to ten family-friendly films that you’ll be able to stream. (You may need to supply your kids with a list of options to choose from.) Then write each movie on a small strip of paper, fold the strips up, and place them in a jar. A couple of times a week, take turns reaching into the jar and selecting a movie to watch. You won’t have to worry about fighting over the pick since everyone has agreed ahead of time to watch whatever movie gets chosen, meaning you can queue up the film, get your popcorn popped, and curl up for a cozy and calm evening.

5. Cardboard City Planning

All those home deliveries mean you’ve probably got lots of cardboard on your hands. Making sure to follow proper sanitization protocols before providing them to your kids (i.e. keeping any cardboard in quarantine itself for at least 24 hours before bringing it inside your home), hold on to any boxes you get for a fun city planning project, including cereal boxes and other food packaging. Once you’ve stocked up, task your kids with designing their own city, using cardboard, scissors, markers, and whatever other arts and crafts supplies you’ve got on hand to design buildings, buses, and all the other things you’d find in a bustling metropolis. Not only is this a great project for killing a whole day, once it’s done your kids can use it as a backdrop for toy car racing, action figure fighting, and whatever else their imagination can come up with.

6. Host a Snack Competition

Food projects are a no-brainer when it comes to keeping kids entertained during quarantined. To mix it up, try this snack cooking competition—no stove or oven required! Taking a cue from the fan-favorite Food Network show Chopped, create a mystery basket of ingredients—one per kid—and give a set amount of time for each “contestant” to create their own showstopping snack. Easy ingredients to use that inspire creativity include spreads like nut butter or chocolate-hazelnut butter, dry cereal, and something special that your kids don’t get all the time, like mini marshmallows or chocolate chips.

7. Show and Tell

Show and tell doesn’t have to be relegated to the classroom. Have each member in your family go into their rooms and select up to five items that they want to share and talk about. If you want to tack on some time and give your show and tell some structure, provide some guidelines for the items that are chosen, such as an item that you’d bring on a deserted island with you or an item that helps you relax. When you reconvene, give everyone a chance to show off their items and talk about why they decided to choose it.

8. Go Camping in the Backyard

How about an at-home vacation for keeping kids entertained during quarantine? Set up a tent in the backyard and have a full-fledged camping experience without ever leaving your home. hotdogs for dinner, tell stories by flashlight, and curl up in sleeping bags to watch the stars. Even if you still go to sleep in your own beds for the night it’s a whimsical break from your normal routine, and you can keep your kids busy during the day by asking them to plan out some fun camping games and activities for the evening ahead.

9. Play “Eye Spy” on a Walk

Fortunately, keeping kids entertained during quarantined does not have to mean never leaving your own property. Walks are still allowed, and even encouraged, so long as you maintain at least six feet of distance between yourself and those outside of your household. Make it extra kid-friendly by putting together a list of items ahead of time that your kids have to look for while you walk—such as a piece of sidewalk chart art, a squirrel, a bicycle, a person walking their dog, and so on. Cross each item off the list as you find it, and stretch out your walk time by trying to find every single item that’s on there.

10. Take a Virtual Tour

Places like museums, zoos, and theme parks are closed to public use, but many of them have expanded their digital offerings to include virtual tours that allow you to explore their space right from the computer. From the Louvre in Paris to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, your kids can get an inside look at some of the most interesting places in the world, with lots of opportunities for discovering new things. They can even visit the surface of Mars!

11. Write to Pen Pals

If your friends or coworkers have kids of a similar age, ask if they’d be interested in starting a pen pal group. Opt for handwritten letters instead of emails to make it more of a novel experience—your kids will love receiving letters in the post.

12. Make an Obstacle Course

There are so many ways to create your own obstacle course for keeping kids entertained during quarantine. Build one inside with chairs and pillows, or break out the chalk and design one on the driveway with areas where your kids have to hop like a frog or walk on their tiptoes. Make it as crazy as you like, and let your kids help you put it together (you can even have them design it all on their own). There are limitless options for obstacles, and your kids will have fun testing their skills.

TV and iPads are great, but when it comes to keeping kids entertained during lockdown, thinking outside of the box is one of the best ways to ensure everyone is having fun and staying active. Try out the ideas above, making tweaks where needed to accommodate kids of certain ages or with unique interests. Use this time to bond as a family and learn some new things, and who knows, your kids might ask to keep the fun going even after lock down has been lifted!

Covid-19 All-Ways Moving Update

I stand buy what I posted 3 weeks ago folks we are closed for a further 3 weeks until we see exactly what's happening with this, my family and my staffs health are more important than money, we will consider bookings for mid to late May onwards , making sure the clients fully understand if the Governments medical officers say it's safe , we will carry the moves out , however if their is still uncertainty our Health comes first at all times and clients will be kept advised and updated at regular intervals.

Over the next 3 weeks from today 14th April 2020 the Trucks will continue to stay parked and they wont be moving until it's safe to do so.

More of us should be doing the same to assist our Health Service beat this virus , Stand together as one and don't go down the miners route, we don't want to see this , we need to unite and stand together and tell them Solicitors our Health comes first.

As a mover the 2 meter rule is broke every time you lift a piece of furniture, this is dangerous and a real risk to you and your families health, 3 staff members from 3 different households in another persons home , come on movers let's all stand together as one.

If it's a mortgaged based move and it's unsafe to carry out the move the mortgage company will move the transaction and chain by 3 months, similar rules apply in the rental / lease market, this information was broadcast live on the Martin Lewis money programme , he is a good reliable source , I think more of us should listen to him.

Do not allow solicitors to pressurise you into completing in these very dangerous times , challenge them, using the Chief Medical Officers advice, You and your families health and the health of others in our Country comes first at all times .

Solicitors quite clearly know the advice the Chief Medical officers are putting out around the clock 24 seven , so please listen to this advice also.

It's very frustrating for us as a company when you see vans still passing with 2 and 3 passengers in them, I really can't understand some folk, I also understand some industries don't have a choice , if they are classed as key workers, the Governments begging us to stay home and some folk just aren't listening, we are all in the same situation , we all need to pay our bills and feed our families but life and saving lives is a priority over earning money , most of us are fortunate and we can still feed ourselves and let's be grateful for that.

Let's listen folks and please do everything you possibly can to help take the pressure off our poor NHS Emergency service employees , who are really under so much pressure, they are at breaking point .

You can help them by keeping yourself and your family indoors at home , come on folks let's listen and get this virus defeated and bring a little normality back to our lives, this is in our hands but we need to listen and act on the instructions from Nicola Sturgeon and Jason Leitch in Scotland and the UK Governments Chief Medical officer for other parts of the UK.

Although we did manage to see a few of the sites this time as we navigated through busy London traffic, hoped to pop in number 10 for a cuppa but just hadnt the time.

Preparing an overnight bag!

Moving home locally, around the corner, or across the country can be stressful and regardless of the distance you are planning to move there could be the potential of needed to live out of bags for a couple of nights. We’ve got a few of the items we believe are necessary for your overnight bag!

A couple changes of clothing – the last thing you want to be doing after a long move day is be sorting through boxes and bags trying to find some PJ’s or clothes to wear in the days ahead. Pack two or three outfits so there is no rush to find the right boxes quickly..

A set of sheets for you bed – same idea as the clothing, you don’t want to have to searching to find a set of sheets for your bed the first couple of nights.

Some cutlery and plates – if you have planned, prepared and budgeted for take away for a couple of day’s around the time of your move, you’ll want to make sure that you have a couple sets of cutlery to hand.

Phone and laptop chargers – we wouldn’t want these to get lost in a sea of boxes! Make sure you have the charger for all your devices!

Toiletries kits – there is nothing better than a nice shower after a long day! So be prepared with shampoo, conditioner, soap and whatever else you might need!
